Effective: May 21, 2026. Operator: Home Organizer DC, LLC, 1730 M Street NW, Suite 600, Washington, DC 20036.
1. Service description
Home Organizer DC provides residential home organizing, unpacking, decluttering, senior move management, and related services across Washington DC, Montgomery County, Maryland, and Northern Virginia. We do not perform commercial organizing, packing for outbound moves, structural construction, or interstate trucking. The scope of any specific project is defined in the written estimate you receive before work begins.
2. Scheduling and cancellation
A 25% deposit secures your project date on our calendar. The deposit applies to the first day's invoice. If you cancel more than seven days before the scheduled start, we refund the deposit in full. If you cancel inside seven days, we retain the deposit to cover crew scheduling. If you reschedule (rather than cancel) with at least 72 hours' notice, the deposit moves with the new date at no charge.
If we have to cancel because of weather, illness, or other operational issues, we either reschedule at no charge or refund the deposit at your option.
3. Pricing
Labor is billed hourly per organizer against a written not-to-exceed ceiling. Inside that ceiling, you pay for hours actually used; if we finish under the ceiling, you pay the lower number. Product (bins, baskets, custom closet systems) is invoiced at our wholesale cost with no markup, line-itemed on the final invoice. Current pricing ranges are published on our pricing page. Estimates include applicable state and local sales tax where required by law.
4. Payment
Final invoices are due within 14 days of receipt. We accept Visa, Mastercard, Amex, Discover, ACH transfer, and check. Invoices unpaid after 30 days incur a 1.5% per month finance charge. We do not send unpaid invoices to collections; we work with you to resolve.
5. Refunds
If you are dissatisfied with completed work, contact us within 14 days of project completion and we will return to address the specific items at no additional labor charge. Beyond that, refunds for completed labor are not standard. Product items can be returned unopened within 30 days for a full refund.
6. Insurance and liability
We carry $2,000,000 general liability in commercial general liability. We are bonded for in-home services. Our team is background-checked. Despite reasonable care, accidents occasionally happen during organizing projects. We will repair, replace, or reimburse you at fair market value for any item we damage during work. Our maximum liability for any single project is the total amount paid for that project. We do not insure against (a) damage from pre-existing structural defects, (b) damage to items of unusual value not disclosed to us in writing before the project, or (c) consequential damages.
7. Photographs and intellectual property
Before and after photos taken during projects are sometimes used in our marketing (website, social media, portfolio reviews) without identifying you, your address, or any personal information. You can opt out at any time by writing to hello@homeorganizerdc.com, and we will remove the images from public material within ten business days. Photographs remain our property; if you would like copies for your own use, we are happy to send them.
8. Items handled during organizing
You retain ownership of every item in your home throughout the project. We sort, surface, and present options; you decide what stays, what is donated, what is sold, and what is disposed of. We are not responsible for items you decide to release. We coordinate donation pickups with established DMV charities and provide donation receipts where the charity offers them.
9. Estate sales and high-value items
For estate cleanouts and senior moves involving items of unusual value (art, jewelry, antiques, firearms, controlled substances, financial documents), we require disclosure in writing during scoping and before project start. We coordinate with licensed estate-sale partners and do not personally appraise or sell such items.
